Nordic Summer School in
Synchrotron Radiation
Research
Sponsored by NorFA
hosted by MAX-lab, Lund
We cordially invite PhD students interested in
Synchrotron Radiation Research
to a Summer School in Skåne in June 2002.
|
The Summer School will be held both at Smygehus konferenscentrum,
beautifully situated by the Baltic sea, and at MAX-lab in Lund. The school is
free of charge*) for the participants, including travel expenses*).
A thorough presentation will be made of the accelerators and the
production of synchrotron radiation, insertion devices and instrumentation.
Applications that will be treated during the school include not only
materials science, spectroscopy and lithography but also structural analysis:
EXAFS and crystallography. Special lectures will be held about fourth
generation light sources and the potential use of free electron lasers in the
X-ray region..
The lecturers will, as previous years, be recruited internationally and will be among the most prominent in
their field in Europe and world wide.
- In addition to lectures the participants will
work in groups with project oriented work in research related
duties in connection to synchrotron radiation. The groups will be put
together as a mixture of participants from different countries.
- An experimental program is included in
the course. MAX-lab will provide beam time to the participants in aim to
work in a realistic situation and try out their practical knowledge
about the properties of synchrotron radiation, how the accelerator, the
insertion devices and experimental stations operate.
- The course also includes a one-day-workshop
where the participants present and discuss the work from the group at
their home institute with fellows and the teachers.
